Background of the Study
Money politics, where political candidates or parties use financial incentives to influence voters and election outcomes, has long been a disturbing feature of Nigerian electoral politics (Aliyu & Ibrahim, 2024). In Jibia Local Government Area (LGA), Katsina State, money politics has been reported as a major factor influencing electoral outcomes, with candidates often providing voters with money, gifts, or other material benefits to secure votes (Musa & Yekeen, 2023). While such practices may result in short-term gains for political aspirants, they undermine the legitimacy and credibility of elections, as they distort the democratic process and reduce voters' ability to make informed, issue-based decisions (Abubakar & Bello, 2023). This study aims to evaluate the impact of money politics on the credibility of elections in Jibia, exploring the extent to which the distribution of financial incentives affects voters' perceptions of the electoral process and their trust in the legitimacy of election outcomes.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Money politics in Jibia LGA poses a significant challenge to the integrity of the electoral system. While it may temporarily increase political engagement and turnout, it does so at the cost of undermining the democratic principles of free and fair elections. This study will examine how money politics influences voters' perceptions of election credibility, particularly the way financial incentives distort political choices and potentially harm the democratic process.

1.6 Significance of the Study

By focusing on Jibia LGA, the research will contribute to broader discussions about the role of financial incentives in elections and their impact on democracy. The findings will be useful for electoral bodies, policymakers, and civil society organizations working to curb the influence of money politics and promote fairer, more transparent elections.
